I May Have A Problem

So, it doesn't matter how many times I give away nail polish, I still end up having an absurd collection. I've always been obsessed with color, collecting ribbons, crayons, markers, and even paint swatches. Then my "OCD" kicks in, and I have to organize them by color. Ask my childhood friends. When we were at a sleep over, I'd take their huge backpack of nail polish, pour them out on the floor, and then diligently organize them by the color wheel. They thought I was weird for it, but boy did I get enjoyment out of it.

So, now that I'm a big kid with my own collection of color, I decided that it was important to display them proudly. Enter: Thrift Store Purchase.

I found this little display shelf for $2 at a local thrift store, unfinished and tacky as ever. We bought some cream-colored paint and took the time to give it a new look. Now, well, it's still pretty tacky, but I love it!

I find that it is a great place to put little gifts or pretty things that would hide in a shelf otherwise. One of my favorite things is coming up with creative ways to display things. Do you have any creative displays? I'd love to hear about them!

Rollin' Thunder

After riding on the back of my husband's motorcycle for the past couple years, I've decided that I want more than being in the back seat. So... I took a basic motorcycle course and got my license! Here are some hot celebs who represent lady riders!

Polly Pocket!

While surfing from one blog to the next, I chanced upon this photo, which immediately brought back fond memories of one of the best toys ever created:

I feel so nostalgic looking at this photo. I used to have so many! I loved the tiny little Polly dolls, and how there were different places you could have her sit or stand. I still have some stored with my other childhood toys, which I whip out every once and a while and have playtime. Sadly, they don't make these little cuties like they used to. Now, the new Polly Pockets certainly cannot fit in your pocket! Seeing these reminded me of my other favorites:

Oh man, did I love my My Little Ponies. For a while, that's all I played with. I don't know what it is about them, but they are pretty much the cutest thing ever!

And of course, we can't forget Barbie!

Barbie has been around forever, and somehow her parents keep having more children. We started out with Skipper, then twins Todd and Tutti, Stacie, toddler Kelly, then infant Krissy. Sheesh! I think Barbie's best days were the '80s, with her brightly colored dresses, big earrings, and poofy hair. Of course, I am an '80s girl, so that may have influenced my opinion.

What about you? Did you play with Polly Pocket or My Little Pony? Or were you more of a Popples fan? What was your favorite childhood toy? I'd love to hear about it!

Lindsey Wixson

Lindsey Wixson is one of the most beautiful models I've ever seen. Her pouty lips and slightly downward slanted eyes make her look like a beautiful sad doll. It's hard to believe she's only 16! I also love her gap in her teeth. Sometimes imperfection is perfect. I feel like too many people change the things about themselves that make them most unique, and I'm enjoying seeing more models with teeth that aren't perfectly straight.

My Happy Place

Living in an 800 square ft, one bedroom apartment with my husband can be challenging. I'm a relatively independent person to begin with, but I imagine lots of newlyweds have problems finding solitude, especially once they have children. I realized I needed to create a space that was solely mine, where I could go to read, nap, crochet, and dream. Enter: The Chair

I went around to all sorts of different furniture stores and flopped into many chairs, testing  out the cushiness. None of them seemed quite right, until this baby. I can melt into it, and it completely envelopes me. Whenever I want some "me" time, I cuddle up with my blankie and drift in to Emily's Happy Place. It is the one place in this tiny apartment that is mine alone, where I can find solitude.

Unfortunately, I'm not the only one who goes to The Chair for solitude. I guess sharing is part of life.  :)

I love DC in the Spring Time

Yesterday was a perfect spring day in DC, which needs to be enjoyed because soon it will be hot, humid, and miserable. My husband's parents are visiting, so we all went downtown to wander around and visit the museums. It's so nice to be able to hop on the metro and have access to all of this history!
